Things that are normal for me now in Oxford...

There are are few things that are starting to become normal for us now that we have been in Oxford a few weeks. Here they are, in countdown fashion:

10. UK telephone booths. After we climbed in this one they
have become quite everyday sights.

9. Trading $ for £
It may have been a little difficult figuring out a new money system, but wasn't long before we knew it like the back of our hand. No longer is the sixpence in circulation, though. That was a disappointment.

8. The one-way street crosswalks that come with instructions. Very helpful when we were first adjusting to the flipped streets...but now I can look the correct way without even checking the pavement to make sure.

7. Reading at the Radcliffe Camera. Okay, maybe I just like to pretend it is already normal. Because I still smile every time I walk through these doors...

6. Laundry takes forever in our flat. Like literally the load I put in this afternoon is still going at 10 PM. And I guess that although it has become mostly normal, that doesn't keep me from complaining!

5. Electrical outlets. I actually think they are pretty cool over here.

4. The little man who appears to tell us we can safely cross the intersection...we are used to him now and somehow he is just seems distinctly UK...and we mostly follow his direction...

3. Taverns named The Nosebag. Or others equally as inexplicable. We don't recommend the Nosebag unless you get dessert. But pubs names such as the Eagle and Child, the Hobgoblin, the Lamb and Flag, the Mitre, and Three Goats Heads are becoming quite normal to see.

2. The bicycles everywhere. And bicyclists! You have to watch out for them more than for cars. But now we almost wished we had bikes too!

1. Eating McDonalds. Because at the end of the day, we are still Americans. And I guess that's what makes this experience so exciting.
